Palm Beach
Palm Beach is the most popular and most spacious off-leash dog beach on the Gold Coast. The designated off-leash area runs for a significant stretch and the beach is wide with good sand for running.
Palm Beach has an excellent cafe strip immediately behind the beach making it ideal for a post-run breakfast. The combination of off-leash beach access and good food makes it one of the most complete Gold Coast dog experiences.
Time restrictions apply at Palm Beach as they do at most Gold Coast dog beaches. Check Gold Coast City Council's website for current seasonal restrictions.

Tallebudgera Creek
Tallebudgera Creek is the best swimming option on the Gold Coast for dogs. The tidal creek provides calm, clear water without ocean surf, making it ideal for smaller dogs, older dogs, and nervous swimmers who might find the ocean intimidating.
The creek is also stunning. The tidal lagoon surrounded by beach and bush is one of the more beautiful spots on the Gold Coast that many visitors miss in favour of the ocean beaches. Access is from the Tallebudgera Creek Camping Reserve area.
Dogs are welcome in the creek area. Check current council rules for specific off-leash access points.
Dog Life Jacket with Rescue Handle
A flotation vest with a top-mounted rescue handle and reflective strips. Even confident swimmers need one in unfamiliar or moving water. The handle lets you lift your dog out fast.

Burleigh Heads
Burleigh Heads has off-leash dog beach access at the southern end of the beach below the headland. The combination of the dramatic headland, the beach, and the nearby cafe culture at James Street makes Burleigh a more diverse dog experience than Palm Beach alone.
The Burleigh Heads National Park on the headland does not permit dogs. The beach sections below the headland are accessible.
Burleigh Heads has excellent cafe culture with multiple outdoor dining options that welcome dogs in their outdoor areas.
Dog-Safe Sunscreen
A dog-safe sunscreen for noses, ears, and exposed skin. Light-coated and short-haired dogs sunburn easily in Australian conditions. Human sunscreen is toxic to dogs, this is formulated for them.

The Gold Coast Hinterland
The Gold Coast Hinterland through Tamborine Mountain is forty minutes from the coast and offers a completely different landscape. The cooler temperatures, the forest scenery, and the village cafe culture make it an excellent complement to a beach-focused Gold Coast trip.
Tamborine Mountain has good dog-friendly cafe options along the main street. The surrounding national park sections restrict dogs but the village area and some forest tracks are accessible on leash.
The Gold Coast has nearly five kilometres of off-leash beach access and some of the best dog beach experiences in Queensland. Write to us at hello@pawtrips.com.au with your Gold Coast beach recommendations.
